Tech news and tips don’t have to just do with computers, you know! A hybrid vehicle like the Toyota Prius is a geek’s dream car; if for no other reason than the massive electronics under the hood, all the gadgets and gear that are in the cabin, from the stereo to the navigation system to bluetooth in the vehicle, up to and including the hybrid gas/electric engine. But the Prius (shown above) isn’t your only option when it comes to hybrid cars (although it’s definitely one of the best!) you can go a little bigger with Ford’s hybrid Escape SUV, or hang out a little while-the 2007 model year will reveal hybrid Toyota Camrys, Nissan Altimas, and many many more models from various auto manufacturers.
But automakers know that the market of folks that will buy a hybrid just to have a hybrid or help do their part to protect the environment isn’t incredibly big and those people who would do that are probably doing it already or have bought their hybrid vehicles already. While that market matures and grows, the mainstream market needs to be addressed as well; hybrid vehicles need to be made available to the average consumer who are looking for a good old fashioned family sedan, and if it happens to be a hybrid that’ll save them a little money on gas, then that’s one thing and more mainstream American car buyers might consider it.
Wired News has an excellent article on the advancements that automobile manufacturers are making in trying to make hybrid vehicles more mainstream, more accessable, and more attractive to the average consumer, while simultaneously making the green crowd very very happy!
